What makes a Kellogg leader?

To Dean Sally Blount '92, addressing the graduating Class of 2014 at Ryan Field on Friday, a key component is, of all things, compulsion.

"(Kellogg leaders) are compulsive in helping people reach their human potential," Blount told the assembled crowd of graduates, friends and family. "They don't wait to be asked. They act."

As the 1,024 members of the Class of 2014 (or as commencement speaker Robert Eckert '77, chairman emeritus of the board of Mattel, Inc., joked, the retirees of 2049) begin, return to or continue their careers, Northwestern University President Morton Shapiro asked that they remember and turn to the friends they made at Kellogg not only during the bad times, but during the good ones as well.

"When you have good times... you want to celebrate with the people who knew you when you were suffering," Shapiro said.
